Filming and photo shoots - Sambourne House
From 1875, Sambourne House was the home of Punch cartoonist Edward Linley Sambourne, his wife Marion, their two children and their live-in servants. Preserved by their descendants after their deaths the house is a rare example of what was known as an 'Aesthetic interior' or 'House Beautiful' style. The Aesthetic Movement of the late nineteenth century advocated the use of foreign or 'exotic' influences in the decoration of the home. This can be seen by the various Japanese, Middle-Eastern and Chinese objects throughout the Sambournes' home.
Dramas such as Life in Squares (2015) and Arthur & George (2015) have filmed here, as well as the film A Room With a View (1985).
The house is also a unique and extraordinary space for photographic shoots.
Our spaces
On the ground floor the hallway opens on to the Dining room and the Morning room. Up one flight of stairs and the entire floor is given over to the Drawing room, shown in the image above. There are two double bedrooms upstairs from there, the main bedroom and Roy's room. Finally, in the attic rooms can be found a small studio where Linley worked on his cartoons and the maid's bedroom next door.
