In an emergency
In an Emergency call 999 if you or someone you know experiences a life-threatening medical or mental health emergency. Stay with the person and continue to talk to them if you can.
If you or the person you are with can keep themselves safe for a short while but is still in need of urgent help:
- Dial 111 and speak to the NHS Mental Health Triage Service. It is free and open 24/7.
- Contact your or their GP surgery and ask for an emergency appointment.
- For people with hearing problems, you can use the NHS 111 British Sign language (BSL) service.
Samaritans
Whatever you are going through, call this free, confidential telephone support, available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You can call 116 123 (Available 24/7) or email [email protected] or write the Samaritans a letter.
The Samaritans respond to 1 call every 10 seconds.
Papyrus
Papyrus is for people who are under 35 and struggling with suicidal feelings or concerned about a young person who might be.

The Listening Place
The Listening Place offers free, confidential and ongoing face-to-face listening, by appointment, to people who feel that life is no longer worth living.
Help can be accessed via website referrals and can be made through professionals, concerned third parties or via self-referrals. Or you can call 020 3906 7676 (Open from 9am to 9pm, seven days a week).

The Rape Crisis National helpline
The Rape Crisis National helpline is a 24/7 free phone and online chat service for anyone aged 16 and over in England and Wales who has been affected by rape, child sexual abuse, sexual assault, sexual harassment or any other form of sexual violence.

Galop’s National LGBTQ+ domestic abuse helpline is for LGBTQ+ people experiencing abuse or violence, such as hate crime, domestic abuse, sexual violence, so-called “conversion therapy” or any other kind of abuse. Call 0800 999 5428 or email [email protected].

National Domestic Abuse Helpline
National Domestic Abuse Helpline supports anyone fleeing domestic abuse and other forms of gender-based violence. Call 0808 2000 247 (24 hour helpline) or chat online (Monday to Friday between 3pm to 10pm) or use their BSL interpreter service (available Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm).
