Residents' parking permits

Eligibility criteria

You are eligible to apply for a resident's parking permit if:

  • your main, permanent home is in the borough
  • you are the registered keeper of the vehicle
  • your driving licence is valid in the UK when you make your application

If you do not meet these criteria, you are not eligible for a permit, irrespective of your interest in the property or the vehicle. You can't apply for a permit for someone else or for someone else’s vehicle.

In May 2020, we made some changes to the eligibility criteria - see the report below:

Can I apply for more than one permit?

You cannot have more than one car permit, or more than one motorcycle permit, for this or any other local authority which bases eligibility for a permit on residency.

You can hold both a car permit and a motorcycle permit at the same time.

Permit-free properties

A number of properties in the borough are classed as permit free. This means they do not qualify for residents' parking permits.
