Doctors Parking Bays

If parking conditions near your practice are exceptionally difficult we may consider putting in a doctors' parking bay, however we would expect doctors to try to park with a permit before applying for a bay.

All applications for doctors' bays will be considered by the Cabinet Member for Planning Policy, Transport and Arts and this may take several months to be approved. If the application is successful the Council will decide where the bay is located. We will try to put it as close to the practice as its practicable but have to consider the effect on the local environment. We will give you a permit that allows you to park in that bay only. We will provide only one parking bay for each practice and it will be enforced between 8.30am and 6.30pm from Monday to Friday only.

We charge £945 to install a new doctors' bay. This charge covers the Council's costs for traffic orders and civils works. A doctors' bay permit costs £315 a year. We charge £15 to issue additional permits.

If you no longer need your permit or are no longer eligible for it you must return it to us. We will only refund for the period of time left on the permit from four months after all permits relating to the Doctors' Bay are returned to the Council and we will deduct an administration charge from any refund due.

Who is Eligible for a Doctor’s Parking Permit?

To qualify for a doctor’s parking permit you must:

be a legally qualified general practitioner (GP) with your own list of patients, or an assistant or trainee GP
you will need to provide an insurance indemnity document showing that you spend at least three quarters of your time as a general medical practitioner.
you must provide most of your medical services, including a full time emergency service, from a practice in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
you must keep regular surgery hours on weekdays and weekends and be likely to be called away from the practice to deal with emergencies.
you must be the main user and keeper of the vehicle and be able to drive it legally in the UK.
