Notting Hill Carnival

Pedestrian restrictions

Safety zones and residents

Safety zones are closed to Carnival visitors and are vital to help with crowd and emergency vehicle management at the event, cordoned off with barriers and staffed by police and stewards.

Changes for 2023:

As part of the annual review of the event safety planning, there are some changes to this year’s safety zones including the removal or adaption of measures on some roads previously designated as safety zones.

The following roads are affected:

  • Bevington Road
  • Blagrove Road
  • Cambridge Gardens
  • Lancaster Road
  • Lonsdale Road
  • Raddington Road

We're currently updating the interactive map and it will be available on this page in time for Carnival.

Access ID required

If you live in a safety zone, you will be asked to present a form of ID at the barrier point showing your name and address. Acceptable ID is a bank statement, council tax statement, utility bill or driving licence.

If you live in a safety zone and have Council-provided carers who need to visit during Carnival, they will automatically receive a letter to authorise access at the safety zone barrier.

If you have private care including a relative who provides support and needs to visit during Carnival, please contact the Carnival phone line for whichever borough you reside in, to order an access letter.
