Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) duties

Reducing the risk of flooding

As an LLFA, we are responsible for reducing the risk of flooding from surface water, groundwater and ordinary watercourses under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010.

To meet our responsiblities we:

  • maintain a public register of flood risk management assets (structures which have an effect on flood risk management)
  • undertake coordinated management of flooding from surface water, groundwater and ordinary watercourses
  • investigate and record flooding events and cooperate with relevant parties
  • respond to major planning applications in relation to sustainable drainage systems
