Checking planning policices and constraints in your area

Your application stands a better chance of being granted planning permission if your plans and designs follow the Council’s planning policies and guidance.

Our Local Plan

The Local Plan contains the Council’s planning policies and sets out the future development of the borough looking ahead, identifying where the main developments will take place and how places within the borough will change, or be protected from change.

The Local Plan and other planning policy documents can be found on the planning policy page.
Check local planning information
Use our digital map to find local planning information relevant to a site or property, including:

  • Article 4 directions
  • Conservation areas
  • Listed buildings
  • Tree Preservation Orders
  • Flood risk

Understanding the planning information and constraints relevant to your site should help inform the design of your proposals.

Works to trees

If your work will affect any trees, you must check if they have a tree preservation order (TPO) on them. Works to trees in conservation areas also require notification to the Council.
