Parking Suspensions

About Parking Suspensions

A suspension is when a parking bay or space is reserved for a specific use and period of time/duration.

We suspend parking bays for these reasons:

  • road works
  • removals
  • Construction Traffic Management Plans (CTMPs)
  • building or maintenance works (trades people using vans, not cars)
  • skips
  • statutory utilities work (gas, water, electricity or communications)
  • the safe movement of traffic (traffic flow purposes)
  • tree works
  • and other events

We always try to suspend the most convenient bay to minimise disruption. We only suspend disabled bays, doctors' bays, car club bays or diplomats' bays if there are no other alternatives.

We do not suspend bays or give dispensation for:

  • cars
  • people carriers
  • four-wheel-drive vehicles
  • minibuses

See information on parking dispensations if you need to park in a restricted parking location such as a single yellow line (space is not guaranteed).

The council is not responsible for suspensions on red routes or  housing estates

Suspension times

Parking places are generally suspended during controlled hours and do not apply on bank/public holidays.

Suspensions for the purpose of a traffic flow or for an alternative bay are restricted 24 hours for each suspended day (or at any time for yellow line dispensations) inclusive of bank/public holidays or weekends.

Check the yellow suspension signs on street for full details.

CTMP agreements

Our Construction Management Team oversee all applications for
suspensions and licences for work sites that have an agreed CTMP.

We will only issue suspensions that are agreed in the CTMP.

Deadlines, charges and all other conditions for submitting a suspension
application will also apply to CTMP sites.

If you have any queries about your CTMP or want to apply for one,
email [email protected].
