Energy Rebate

What is it?

The Government is providing a £150 one-off Energy Bills Rebate for most households in council tax bands A-D. The aim is for the rebate to be paid in April 2022. It will not need to be repaid and is available for all households in these bands.

More information on the rebate can found on this leaflet from Central Government.

How can I get the rebate?

As of 15 June 2022 payment has now been made to all Council Tax Direct Debit payers in bands A to D for the mandatory scheme and for the discretionary scheme, where:

  • The council has up-to-date account information, and
  • Direct Debit details were in place.

We have written to all eligible residents to request bank details to make an Energy Rebate payment and where this information has not been provided, we will place a credit on to the resident’s council tax account, which will reduce on-going instalments.

A Discretionary Scheme for residents not in Band A-D

If you are eligible for the discretionary scheme, you will receive a payment from 20 May. We aim to make payments to those entitled to the discretionary scheme by 15 June.

The following residents will be entitled to a £120 Discretionary Energy Rebate award:

  • Residents in council tax band E
  • Council Tax Reduction Scheme recipients in Band F-H
  • Non-council tax liable, fixed benefit only households responsible for paying fuel bills
  • New Band A-E properties moving in between 1 April to 1 May who have not received already received a payment.

Empty/second homes or non-resident landlords will not receive payments.

Payments will not be made to any third parties without the consent of the responsible council tax payer. Any payments subsequently found to have been paid in error will be required to be paid back.
