Environment Select Committee

What does this select committee do?

The Environment Select Committee has the remit to scrutinise topics and policy areas relating to:

  • planning policy
  • culture
  • environmental policy
  • flooding
  • transport and traffic management.

Current priorities for the select committee

The main scrutiny priorities for the Environment Select Committee were prioritised by members and formally proposed at the council’s  Overview and Scrutiny Committee. 

The select committee will carry out scrutiny of these topics throughout the municipal year which for 2021-22, include:

  • The Council commitment to become a Net Zero organisation by 2030
  • The Council commitment for the borough to become Net Zero by 2040
  • street management 
  • the New Local Plan Review

Upcoming meetings

 Andrew Boff AM - 13 January 2022

Andrew Boff AM, chair of the Planning and Regeneration Committee at the London Assembly, gave a presentation about his committee’s recent inquiry into Covid 19, Housing Typologies and Design in London on 13 January 2022. 

The session organised by the Environment Select Committee, and held in public at the Council Chamber at Kensington Town Hall, heard in more detail about the findings of the inquiry from Andrew Boff AM. This included areas such as:

  • environmental, social, and cost impacts of different typologies, including tall buildings
  • the costs of tall buildings, viability and affordable housing provision
  • density
  • quality of design
  • housing and post-Covid 19.
