Mandatory relief
This is a national government scheme which provides relief on the business rates of registered charitable organisations. Relief of 80 per cent on rate bills is provided for eligible charities and this is called mandatory relief.

Discretionary rate relief (DRR)
In addition to mandatory rate relief, the council operate a local policy of discretionary rate relief (DRR) which provides an additional discount of up to 10 per cent for organisations in receipt of mandatory relief and up to 90 per cent for not-for-profit organisations that do not receive mandatory relief.
Awards are based on meeting the eligibility criteria which includes evidencing that 66 per cent or more of service users are resident in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
It is recommended that you read the guidance and criteria, published below, first before applying. If your organisation meets the eligibility criteria then please fill in and submit the application form.
Successful applicants are awarded DRR for an initial two-year period after which organisations are invited to re-apply every two years thereafter. New applications may be eligible to be backdated to the beginning of the financial year in which they are submitted.
