Kensington Aldridge Academy - emotional well-being services

Question asked by Andrea Newton

Mr Benson, the Head Teacher of Kensington Aldridge Academy (KAA), has provided information to parents about the emotional wellbeing services available to children at the school.

KAA have been delivering emotional wellbeing services via Place2Be since the school opened in September 2014. This offer was further expanded after the Grenfell tragedy to meet the needs of pupils and to offer additional support to parents. The enhanced offer from Place2Be at KAA forms part of the wider emotional support offer that has been funded by the Council across a number of schools that have been directly affected by the Grenfell tragedy.

Place2Be is a national charity currently working in 282 schools across the country. Place2Be work with pupils in a variety of ways offering emotional wellbeing support in one to one sessions, groups and via drop-in. The service is delivered by clinical staff and volunteer counsellors on supervised placement training. All those working in the school have received training in young people’s responses to trauma. Place2Be have a model that is fully integrated into the school to allow for pupils to be supported in a flexible way by staff that become familiar to pupils.

Place2Be forms part of the wider therapeutic offer in KAA coordinated by a dedicated Clinical Psychologist. There is regular input from the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) to ensure that pupils requiring more specialist support are identified and seen by the CAMHS service.
