Prepare to work on your summer body and hit the gym once again as Kensington Leisure Centre and Chelsea Sports Centre will begin a phased reopening on Saturday 25 July.
Run in conjunction with Better UK, Kensington Leisure Centre and Chelsea Sports Centre are undergoing a variety of changes to ensure a safe return for the public following the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the initial re-opening phase, the leisure centres will provide access to the gym, fitness classes and swimming but access to areas like the spa or squash courts will not be available. A full list of what’s on offer can be found by visiting the website of either leisure centre.
Implementing social distancing, offering a limited selection of activities and regularly cleaning the facilities, the aim is to create a safer, better and stronger place where individuals can realise their fitness goals.
A few updates the public can expect at the leisure centres include:
- New hygiene measures at gyms, pools and fitness classes in line with Coronavirus regulations
- Book before you visit – visitors must book an appointment via the Better UK app or website before visiting
- Membership updates – accounts will be unfrozen, and membership plans will be reinstated
- Reduced activities and access – fitness classes and access to select areas will be reduced to accommodate social distancing
Cllr Emma Will, Lead Member for Leisure, Culture and Community Safety said:
“I’m delighted that our leisure centres are reopening to the public, as these are such vital spaces.
“It has become clearer than ever during the pandemic that being able to exercise regularly is vital for our residents physical and mental health.”
Matthew Keown, Partnership Manager, Better said:
“After nearly four months of lockdown, we are delighted to finally have the green light for reopening our leisure facilities in a phased fashion.
“Keeping people safe is now a shared responsibility and our top priority. As a leisure operator we will be working in partnership with customers to ensure their visit is safe. This means things will look a little different, there will be no walk-ups and all visits must be pre-booked.
“We recognise that some people may be worried about returning to their local leisure facilities, so we will continue to offer free access to online fitness and exercises classes via our Better app.
“We look forward to seeing you soon.”
