A Grenfell Projects Fund (GPF) recipient who inspired young people to stay fit and healthy during the pandemic will be sharing his story at the next GPF online presentation evening, which takes place from 6.30-7.45pm next Tuesday, 15 December.

Christopher Herbert, of Fit For Life Youth, had planned to use his GPF funding to provide in-person training sessions for children at schools and youth organisations around North Kensington during 2020.

But when lockdown put a stop to those plans, Christopher adapted his programme so that it could be delivered remotely.

Using YouTube and Instagram and Zoom, he created online coaching sessions for schools which pupils could complete from home either as part of daily lessons or as homework.

Youngsters could also log on to live interactive sessions for a physical and mental boost and a break from the monotony of lockdown.

Christopher said:

“We had a great response and participation in the sessions, and our YouTube coaching videos had over 1,000 views.

“Our classes were extremely busy with glowing feedback and we received letters and messages from families, young people and parents thanking us for our efforts during the lockdown.

“It was really important to provide the sessions as the exercise provided an outlet and positive activities for the young people, coupled with the health benefits.”

With the latest lockdown over, Christopher is now looking to 2021 and has agreed start dates for in-person sessions at the majority of schools he had originally planned to work with as well as online training for others.

He will also be continuing to produce his popular online coaching videos and hopes to introduce new family sessions in line with Covid regulations.
