2021 Mayor's Awards winners with certificate

Nominations are now open for the Kensington and Chelsea Mayor’s Awards 2022.

The awards celebrate those who live, work or study in the borough and who have made an outstanding contribution to life in Kensington and Chelsea.

The public are invited to submit nominations in four categories: Individual Contribution, Young Person, Local Community Organisation and Coronavirus Response.

Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea, Cllr Gerard Hargreaves said:

“From inspiring individuals to vital voluntary organisations and networks, recognising the people going above and beyond to support our local community is one of the best parts of this role.

“I encourage everybody to nominate people for a Mayor’s Award and I look forward to reading the nominations and hearing more about the fantastic work that goes on across the borough.”

Last year, 19 Mayor’s Awards were given out.

Gloria Gardner was recognised for her individual contribution for her voluntary work with Glass Door Homeless Charity and Under One Sky to launch their Covid-19 emergency food initiative for people experiencing homelessness. She said:

“I am delighted to have received a Mayor’s Award, but this award is dedicated to all the volunteers who’ve helped rescue food used in meals for those in need. A mountain of people came together every day for seven days a week making hundreds of sandwiches and cakes. We will continue to help those in need.”

Master John Webster, recognised for individual contribution for delivering over 1500 online Taekwondo classes during the pandemic, said:

“I am honoured and pleasantly surprised to receive the Mayors Award. When I started at the Curve two and half years ago, I did not envisage how good these students would become. They have stayed focused and motivated, even through the lockdown."

Nominations close at 5.00pm on Monday 24 January 2022.

Winners will be selected by a six-person judging panel comprising:

  • Cllr Gerard Hargreaves, Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea
  • Imaan Abdi, Youth Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea
  • Cllr Elizabeth Campbell, The Leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council
  • Cllr Mohammed Bakhtiar, The Leader of the Labour Group at Kensington and Chelsea Council
