In order to support residents into work, Kensington and Chelsea Council has teamed up with Morley College as part of a brand-new initiative to deliver a hybrid apprenticeship support course based at the North Kensington Centre and online.

The course, which is funded by the Council, is free for local residents and is designed to educate successful applicants about apprenticeships, develop personal skills required to prepare for work, and provide support to apply for apprenticeships in the borough.

In particular, the course will delve into key transferrable skills such as, communication, time management, team-working, support on how to conduct yourself in a formal meeting, behaviours at work, organisational skills, language and writing skills and interview techniques.

Open to those aged 16 and older, the course will run from 24 January featuring five modules, with each module running for approximately 1.5 – 2 hours. Those who enrol will need to be available to complete all of the modules on the following dates:

  • Monday 24 January 2022
  • Tuesday 25 January 2022
  • Wednesday 26 January 2022
  • Thursday 27 January 2022
  • Friday 28 January 2022

Cllr Catherine Faulks, Lead Member for Economy, Employment and Innovation, said:

“Supporting our community to build the skills needed to find work is key for the Council, particularly following the pandemic when we know that many found themselves unemployed.

“Working together with Morley College to offer this apprenticeship training course will provide valuable opportunities and skills training for those who attend them, boosting all important future career opportunities.”

Craig Hanlon-Smith, North Kensington Centre Principal for Morley College, said:

Morley College is delighted to be partnering with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to deliver this apprenticeship training for residents.

“This new training will give residents the essential skills they need to access job opportunities in London. We can't wait to welcome them and get started."

The Council has introduced a range of new employment support projects in recent months to create more opportunities for the community to find work. These include Careers into Construction support; a dedicated external apprenticeships service; the Community Works employment projects for those affected by Grenfell and a digital skills programme pilot. The Council continues its work to facilitate Kickstart job placements.
