A new opportunity is open for young people in Kensington and Chelsea to apply for a free, three-month training programme to improve their skills and gain valuable work experience in the digital industry, supported by the Council and charity, the Harrow Club.
This programme is a brand new pilot, which is part of a range of local employment support projects being run in the borough, with the potential to be scaled up and create a wider range of opportunities with multiple employers in the future.
There are ten placements available on the programme, provided by employers in the digital space; WebFX, SixC, and FxTec. The placements are being facilitated by the Harrow Club and part funded by Kensington and Chelsea Council. Anyone aged 18 to 24 who lives or has studied in the borough is eligible to apply.
Cllr Catherine Faulks, Lead Member for Economy, Employment and Innovation, said:
“Supporting our residents into employment and providing better opportunities for career development has been and continues to be a priority for the Council, prior to the pandemic and now as we recover. This programme connects local providers with local young people to offer a valuable first step into the ever-growing digital industry.”
Liam Clipsham, Senior Development Manager at the Harrow Club said:
“Harrow Club is passionate about providing employment opportunities for young people, and is proud as a charity, to broker this through partnerships with local tech businesses as well as Kensington and Chelsea Council who have been instrumental in supporting this new venture.”
No previous experience is necessary for applicants and the course is entirely free, with all travel and lunch expenses paid for. The programme includes practical skills development, learning from leaders in the sector, and gaining experience that will bolster any young person’s CV and employability.
