Platinum Jubilee Party

This year, Her Majesty the Queen will become the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. In honour of her 70 years on the throne, we are looking forward to joining in the celebrations and encouraging you to hold your own parties with your neighbours over the extended bank holiday weekend, from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June.

People around the country will be marking this historic, national occasion with street parties and you can apply to host your own street party for free by following a simple application process, which is open until Sunday 1 May 2022.

We have created a step-by-step guide which gives you a breakdown of the process and some helpful hints and tips about holding a fun and safe street party in your local area.

Cllr Emma Will, Lead Member for Culture, Leisure and Community Safety, said:

“These jubilee celebrations are a fantastic way for our communities to get together and honour Her Majesty’s outstanding service as our longest reigning monarch. We’re delighted that people are coming together locally, so we’re committed to making the process as simple as possible to apply to host street parties for free.

“We will also be providing funding to support community organisations to hold local events such as Tea for the Queen for our older residents who may be socially isolated, bereaved, lonely or housebound.”

Queen Elizabeth II last came to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in 2017 when she met families and volunteers at the Westway Sports Centre in the aftermath of the Grenfell tragedy, she later visited the Chelsea Flower Show as part of her regular public appearances. In 2014, she sent the very first royal tweet under her own name to announce the opening of the new Information Age Galleries at the Science Museum in South Kensington.

More local events taking place in Kensington and Chelsea will be announced over the coming months and if you would like to apply for funding to support your event, visit the City Living, Local Life page for more information.

Alternatively, if you wish to nominate someone who would enjoy attending the Tea for the Queen event, or you would like to volunteer or sponsor the event yourself, please call 020 3719 4954 or email [email protected].
