Kensington and Chelsea’s commitment to the environment has been recognised as it scooped a host of awards from the judges at London in Bloom and those from Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag.

Today it was announced that 10 parks in the borough have again secured Green Flag status.  This includes Holland Park which has now held a Green Flag for 20 years.  The full list of winners are:

  • Avondale Park
  • Cremorne Gardens
  • Emslie Hornimans Pleasance
  • Gunnersbury Cemetery
  • Holland Park
  • Kensington Memorial Park
  • Little Wormwood Scrubs
  • St Luke’s Gardens
  • Tavistock Square Gardens
  • Westfield Park

In addition to the recognition by Keep Britain Tidy, the borough is celebrating London in Bloom handing out a host of awards last week, including four Gold and five Silver-Gilt awards the parks in the borough.

Gold was awarded again to Holland Park, Little Wormwood Scrubs and Gunnersbury Cemetery, whilst Emslie Horniman’s Pleasance regained its Gold award.

The borough’s innovative Community Kitchen Gardens, which provide spaces for residents to grow fruit, vegetables and plants in a borough with no allotments, were also recognised with 18 ‘It’s your Neighbourhood’ awards.

Providing more access to nature is part of Kensington and Chelsea Council’s Green Plan, which sets out environmental ambitions for the borough. The aims include creating more green space, protecting local habitats and helping more people to enjoy, understand and access nature.
