Kensington and Chelsea Council is working with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as part of a national effort to make sure that local businesses are Covid-secure and help tackle the spread in the borough.
Being Covid-secure means that businesses will need to have put adjustments in place to manage the risk and protect anyone who enters the premises from Coronavirus. These adjustments include implementing and managing social distancing measures; introducing strict hand washing practices; and having a regular cleaning regime in place, particularly during busier trading times.
In line with other areas across the UK, businesses in Kensington and Chelsea will be contacted and asked about their Covid-secure practices to ensure that they are operating safely. This will be done over a five-week period beginning Monday 12 October 2020.
If the HSE Team are not able to get in touch with a business or there are areas which need following up on, Council Health and Safety officers will visit the premises for a check of what might need improving.
During the checks, businesses will be given the right advice and guidance to help manage risk and protect staff, customers and visitors. Action could be taken if more work needs to be done to make premises Covid-secure, ranging from enforcement notices, stopping certain work practices until they are made safe and, where businesses fail to comply, this could lead to prosecution.
