Following the news of the approval of our One Year Covid-19 Culture Plan in July of this year, residents of Kensington and Chelsea and visitors alike can now enjoy full access to the plan.
The Culture Plan responds to the impact of the pandemic on our local creative and cultural community and recognises the role that they play in the borough’s recovery as well as how it must be flexible to respond to our community’s needs.
Originally developed with input from over 5,000 people who live, work or learn in the borough and adapted in light of the pandemic, the plan places an emphasis on digital cultural activities and events. One of the first big events this Autumn that has both a digital and physical component is a new project called K&C Culture Night which aims to showcase the borough’s vast cultural offerings.
Taking place on Friday 2 October, residents and visitors alike can look forward to online dance courses, film screenings, and art shows hosted by organisations such as Japan House London, Saatchi Galleries and the Royal Court Theatre.
Cllr Emma Will, Lead Member for Culture, Leisure and Community Safety said:
“Culture is what makes a borough exciting. Different communities and visitors come together to create a place that not only impresses but shares a wealth of knowledge about our history and where we’re headed. I’m thrilled that this One Year Covid-19 Culture Plan is now available for all to access and to discover the many fabulous activities and events they can look forward to this year.
“It is our hope that through culture we can empower our community and continue to play a part in helping the borough recover from the impacts of the Coronavirus pandemic.”
The Culture Plan features:
- Over 50 ambitions to help the borough bounce back
- Financial investments into projects such as the new Black History Month grants scheme, the Arts grants and the recent delivery of a digital Notting Hill Carnival for 2020
- Both digital and physical events that are easily accessible by members of the public and within our community such as the launch of our first ever Culture Night on Friday 2 October 2020
