Residents, visitors, local businesses and traders are being invited to provide feedback on over 50 proposals to make visiting and trading at markets in Kensington and Chelsea, including the iconic Portobello and Golborne, even better. Feedback on the proposals will lead the creation of the Council’s five-year Markets Plan, launching later this year.
The proposals cover a range of themes including:
- sustainability
- creating more space and ease of movement
- enterprise support
- youth engagement
- safety
- attracting new customers
- operational support for traders
- potential for new markets and additional stalls
- supporting Portobello and Golborne Market
Cllr Catherine Faulks, Lead Member for Economy, Employment and Innovation said:
“It’s so important to us to hear from those who work, live and visit markets in Kensington and Chelsea, so that we can make sure they work for everyone. We hope to maintain what makes our markets so special and incorporate innovative new ways of operating.
“Markets are a really valuable asset to our borough, contributing to our local economy and communities, and that’s why we want to make sure they can continue to thrive in the future through our Markets Plan.”
Covering both Council-owned and independent markets, the proposals were created following consultation with traders, residents of the borough, and local businesses earlier in the year. Proposals which are brought forward into the Markets Plan will be introduced with input from traders and residents.
Whether you’re a resident, business owner, trader or you simply visit any of the markets in the borough, your opinion matters. Get involved and help make our markets an even better place to be.
