The Council is continuing to support local people with just under one tonne of fresh and dry food delivered to food banks and community kitchens last week. This delivery was donated by City Harvest, who sent the Council 1,500 tins of food and 180kg of pasta. This was on top of the regular delivery of fresh surplus food rescued from supermarkets by City Harvest, provided to the Council three times a week. The Council works in partnership with City Harvest who is our key partner in the London Food Alliance.
An additional 650kg of vegetables, fruit and eggs were purchased by the Council as part of its bulk purchase of fresh food split into seven deliveries to be supplied fortnightly.
Cllr Anne Cyron, Kensington and Chelsea Council’s Lead Member for Communities, said: “While lockdown is easing, many residents will still be struggling with the changes the pandemic caused in their lives, which may have made accessing food and other supplies more difficult than it was before. We continue to consider how we can support these residents in the circumstances they’re navigating.”
Foodbanks and community kitchens in receipt of food and supplies and available to support the food and shopping needs of residents include Bay 20, Dads House, Dalgarno Trust Food Bank, SMART Centre, Venture Centre, North Kensington Community Kitchen, Tabernacle Christian Centre, Refettorio Felix at St Cuthbert’s, Kensington and Chelsea Food Bank (part of the Trussel Trust), Pepper Pot, St Francis Church Food Bank (part of HTB Church alliance), Age UK Kensington and Chelsea
