Councillor Preety Hudd has been elected as Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea for 2023-24 at the Council’s Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 24 May.
Preety has appointed Councillor Dori Schmetterling as her Deputy Mayor, who has represented Pembridge ward since 2018. The Mayoral Chaplain is Mother Emma Dinwiddy Smith, Parish Vicar of St Mary Abbots Church.
At the AGM, Preety announced that The Felix Project, will be her chosen Mayoral Charity for the year.
Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea, Cllr Preety Hudd said:
“It is a great honour and privilege to have been elected Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea. I look forward to working with the community during my year in office.
I am delighted to be partnering with The Felix Project, a food distribution charity collecting surplus food and delivering it to those in need in the borough and across London.”
Tanya Mitchell, Director of Income Generation and Marketing at The Felix Project, said:
“We are thrilled to have been chosen by the new mayor and excited about the opportunities the partnership brings. We currently supply 29 charities and schools across the borough, helping to feed thousands of people. However, we know there is still a desperate need for even more food from us and we cannot help without incredible support like this.”
Preety was elected as a Councillor to represent Campdenward in May 2022. Preety has lived in the borough (in Pembridge and Campden wards) for the last 35 years.
Since her election, Preety has been Vice-Chair of the Family Services Select Committee and a member of the Investment Committee, the Licensing Committee, and the Working Budget Group.
Preety has worked in finance and retired following the birth of her second child in 2002. Her community service includes volunteering at St Mary Abbots Hospice, Holland Park School and Fox Primary School. She is married with two adult children.
