Residents can learn about how we are helping nature thrive with our Bee Superhighway at our online spring events.
The ecology team will run a programme of events throughout the year for residents to learn about the wildlife and biodiversity in Kensington and Chelsea.
From walks and talks to open days, training events and workshops there is plenty to enjoy.
Throughout March the council has been working with Maxilla Men in Sheds to build 15 bug-hotels from wood and recycled plastics.
These bug hotels along with existing green spaces will form hotspots that provide a safe environment for pollinators which will develop into our Bee Superhighway.
Events coming up include:
- The Plight of the Bumblebee on Thursday 15 April at 6.30 pm. Book here
- Flies: the underappreciated pollinators on Thursday 22 April at 6.30 pm. Book here
- Spring Botany Walk on Thursday 29 April at 6pm. Email [email protected] to book
- Dawn Chorus Bird Walk on Saturday 22 May at 5pm. Book here.
Director for Cleaner, Greener and Cultural Services, Terry Oliver said:
“Nature and green spaces have been vital this year for our mental health and boosting nature is part of our longer-term plans for a greener borough. Thanks to the volunteers working with Maxilla we now have homes to help pollinators thrive with our bug hotels. They are part of a much bigger plan to attract wildlife to our environment and get more of our community involved in local nature. Our online events are perfect for anyone keen to get involved and learn more.”

The council set an ambition to be a carbon neutral council by 2030 and a carbon neutral borough by 2040. Green ambitions include boosting access to nature, improving air quality and helping to tackle fuel poverty.
