North Kensington Social Justice Archive project

For over 150 years, North Kensington has been at the centre of many campaigns and fights for social justice and equality. In the Spring 2023, the Council made a commitment to support the development of an archive in the North Kensington area to create a home for these stories.

Discovery Phase

The first stage of this project will be the Discovery Phase. This phase is intended to understand what is wanted from the Social Justice Archive from people in North Kensington. We have appointed a group of experts from UCL Consultants to progress this piece of engagement.

The group from UCL Consultants will be working with members of the local community, specialists in community archiving, and the organisation Decolonising the Archives to create a series of workshops and other opportunities to hear directly from communities in North Kensington.

The workshops are planned for:

  • Tuesday 23rd July. 12 noon – 8pm at North Kensington Library and other venues
  • Saturday 21st September. 11am – 5pm at North Kensington Library and other venues

More information about these can be found through UCL Consultant’s Link Tree @northkensingtonarchive
