Add to shortlist

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Westminster Family Information Service in collaboration with Coram!

We are recruiting a group of local parents who are interested in volunteering with us to become Early Years Parent Champions.

The role

Early Years Parent Champions will volunteer their time talking to other parents with young children in their local area. As part of the volunteer role, you will:

  • Talk with individuals or small groups to share information on the current 15 and 30 hours funding for childcare provided by the government.

  • Set up information sessions for parents at community events alongside Early Years staff members.

  • Help parents to find further information and advice from an organisation, such as a charity, a local support group or the Family Information Service.

What skills or experience do I need to be a Parent Champion volunteer?

You will:

  • Be a parent/carer of a young child.

  • Have accessed Early Years childcare for your child or be in receipt of the funded hours for them.

  • Be familiar with stay and play sessions for children in your local community.

  • Be personable and happy to approach parents.

How much time will I volunteer?

You would need to spare 2 or 3 hours a week ideally, and for a minimum of six months. These times are flexible and you should normally be able to fit these in around your family needs, study or any other commitments.

A lot of your chatting to other parents is likely to be done when you are out in your local community. Parent Champions meet parents in all sorts of places, such as playgrounds, markets, libraries and local playgroups.

It can benefit you too!

As well as building your general confidence, you can use your volunteering experience to:

  • further your training or employment prospects

  • make a change in your career

  • have opportunities to give back to others in your communities

  • find out more about how to best support and help your own family

What support do I get?

The Westminster Parent Champions scheme will be coordinated by the Family Information Service at Westminster City Council, who will provide full training and day-to-day support. Travel expenses will be covered.

How do I apply?

You can register your interest for this role online.

Once you have registered your interest, a member of the Family Information Service will contact you to arrange to meet you at a local library or Family Hub. This will be an opportunity for you to meet members of the team, hear more about the role, answer any questions, and complete an application form.

If it isn’t possible to meet in person, we can look to arrange a meeting with you online.
