Developing localised services

Why are we making changes?

We have heard from residents that the council needs to better integrate services and focus our efforts where residents are located.

We are proposing to make a number of changes to improve housing management services for all our residents by delivering bespoke services to local areas. This will mean bringing services closer to our communities, making them more accessible and convenient, and ultimately improving overall service quality.

To help us do this we have adopted the most successful ways of working that have been introduced by the Lancaster West Neighbourhood team.

World’s End area project: developing localised services

The World's End and surrounding area project is a direct response to what residents have told us they want in their neighbourhood.

We are collaborating with residents and other stakeholders in the World’s End area to explore how localised approaches could benefit residents and how more coordinated support across council and other providers could deliver better services.

Blantyre Office refurbishment

We have plans to refurbish the Blantyre Housing Office to provide improved and more accessible service to residents. By creating a welcoming office environment and expanding our space, we aim to improve the experience for residents visiting us.

This expansion will also allow for multidisciplinary teams, further enhancing the support we can offer. As part of this process, we consulted with residents on the services they would like to see provided from the office in 2024.

A survey was conducted to understand which services residents would like to see delivered from the estate and the office. The co-designed consultation and engagement plan included a range of activities to gather views from residents, businesses and community organisations.

These activities included:

  • a paper survey delivered to residents
  • an online survey promoted through social media, council enewsletters, local organisations, posters, and leaflets
  • targeted community engagement on the World’s End estate and surrounding areas
  • organised sessions and meetings with specific groups

We also created a design board, which was displayed in the Blantyre Office reception area, where residents were able to select their favourite design elements for a new reception area. This interactive opportunity allowed the community to have a direct impact on the final look and feel of the Blantyre Office, ensuring it reflects their preferences.

The results of the consultation can be viewed on our consultation hub in the coming weeks.

What is next?

We are now looking at how we can implement the feedback from residents and staff to create a warm and welcoming Blantyre Office which meets residents’ needs.

We are planning to close the current Blantyre Office in December 2024 to carry out these improvement works. The office will temporarily move to 1-2 World’s End Place and offer the same level of service while refurbishment work takes place.
