Review of palliative care

Review of palliative care

At its October meeting, the Adult Social Care and Health Select Committee set up a working group to review Central and West London Clinical Commissioning Group’s proposals for a new model for palliative care in the borough.

Palliative care is the active holistic care of patients with advanced progressive illness. End of life care helps all those with advanced, progressive and incurable illness who are nearing the end of their life to live as well as possible until they die. They enable the supportive and care needs of both patient and family to be identified and met from the point of diagnosis to the last phase of life and into bereavement.

The scrutiny review will engage with stakeholders, carrying out interviews and organising a public discussion: ‘End of life Care Provision for Kensington and Chelsea and Palliative care in North West London”.

Please note some stakeholders were not able to attend this event on its original date due to the pre-election period guidance, so the public discussion was postponed. It has been rescheduled to take place on Monday 20 January 2020 between 5.30pm-7.00pm, in the Small Hall, at Kensington Town Hall, Hornton Street, London W8 7NX.

The Select Committee welcomes the attendance of interested residents and local people.

Call for evidence

The Select Committee is launching a Call for Evidence to invite interested GPs, nurses and other primary care health professionals in the borough to present their insights on palliative care.

If you are a GP, nurse or other primary care health professional the Select Committee seeks your views on the following questions:

  • What are the key issues that you experience in treating patients who need palliative care?
  • What improvements should be reflected in the new model?
  • What do you think palliative care can offer?

Please send your responses by 31 January 2020 to [email protected], stating ‘Call for Evidence submission’ in the title. Please also state clearly who the submission is from (whether from yourself in a personal capacity or sent on behalf of an organisation).
