Meeting to discuss next steps around potential soil contamination
We know that many people are worried about possible air pollution and soil contamination in the Grenfell area. Our top priority is to look after people’s health and protect them from harm.
Recent media reports of an unpublished study by Professor Anna Stec suggest there may be toxic contaminants in soil near Grenfell Tower and across a wider area. This needs to be thoroughly investigated. We will take advice from both Public Health England and the Environment Agency to agree the nature and scope of any testing on this site, and elsewhere. Work on this is already under way.
There will be a meeting on Monday 29th October from 7pm at the Kensington Hilton Hotel, Holland Park Ave, W11 4UL. Grenfell United and the community have asked for this meeting to give local people the chance to ask questions about possible soil contamination following the Grenfell tragedy. Everyone is welcome to attend this meeting and to voice any concerns they may have.
Professor John Ashton, Director of Public Health for Kensington and Chelsea, and Professor Yvonne Doyle, Regional Director for London at Public Health England, will be there to answer questions, along with Louise Proctor from the NHS West London Clinical Commissioning Group.
