In Phase 2 the Mayor of London is providing £784,420 for Notting Dale and the Council has secured a further £2.375 million with internal and external funding to deliver 12 environmental initiatives which are currently underway.

Henry Dickens Court Estate - Improving the Thermal Performance of Social Homes

The Henry Dickens Estate has properties that are poorly insulated with single-glazed windows. The council is improving these properties to enhance the thermal, acoustic, and security regulations.

Schools Retrofit - The Route to Decarbonisation for Primary Schools

Bramley House Smart Cities

This project aims to employ smart technologies to cut down energy consumption and carbon emissions. The project involves smart thermostat installations, communal lighting upgrades, and initiatives to change residents' energy consumption behaviours.

Renewable Energy in Social Housing

Introducing BioSolar roofs in Camelford Court and a Silchester Stret Property in Notting Dale, this project aims to provide green energy, reduce resident service charges, and lower carbon emissions in Notting Dale.

Creating a Cleaner and Healthier Notting Dale

Community Cooking and Growing Workshop

A local initiative that promotes sustainable and healthy eating practices. The program includes cooking classes, growing workshops, and a community-authored recipe book. This initiative is co-designed in partnership with local organisations such as Space and Nourish Hub.

Active Travel Programme

This program is an extension of Phase 1 initiatives and activities such as cycling training, Dr Bike Repairs, mechanic instructor courses and certification, community-led rides and outdoor physical activities in Avondale Park. The delivery part is Bikeworks. 

Building a Notting Dale Nature Recovery Network

Flood Resilience and Sustainable Urban Drainage

Addressing critical drainage issues, this project focuses on introducing SUDs schemes to tackle flooding issues in Notting Dale. 

Greening Notting Dale Ward

A project that emphasises expanding and enhancing green spaces in Notting Dale, catering to both residents and urban wildlife. As part of this project, we are working on four green spaces: Greening Grenfell Walk, Kingsnorth House Community Garden, Lancaster Green Greenspace Improvements Including Solar Parklet and Nottingwood House Nature Garden. 

Building Local Food Pathways

An expansion of Phase 1, this project introduces three additional community kitchen gardens across Notting Dale. In this phase, we are focusing on Henry Dickens and Nottingwood House community kitchen gardens.

Delivering New Green Jobs and Skills in a Circular Economy

Community Warm Spaces Programme

A holistic service offering warm free spaces, energy advice, food, training, and more to support residents amidst multiple crises like cost of living and fuel poverty/energy crisis.

Household Goods Redistribution and Upcycling Scheme

This pilot aims to repurpose goods from vacant properties, supporting the circular economy and aiding low-income Notting Dale residents.

Climate Change Awareness Campaign and Education Programme

A partnership program designed to educate, motivate, and empower residents to take climate action in their local area and raise awareness of the environmental and climate issues affecting Notting Dale.  This programme brings together different local organisations such as Rugby Portobello Trust, Urbanwise, Portobello Radio, and Silchester Residents’ Association. 

Key achievements so far

  • 49 new growing plots and 3 new community kitchen gardens created and improved (Kingsnorth House, Nottingwood and Portland Road.
  • 499 m2 of new publicly accessible green space.
  • 80 trees planted and 3360 m2 green spaces with improved quality.
  • 24 Greening/gardening/local food training or workshops held and 34 Repair Café events.
  • 11 green spaces created and/or improved through community kitchen gardens, improvements in local parks etc. Green roof and bug hotel at Avondale Park.
  • 171 homes are being retrofitted, including 119 socially rented homes.
  • Water-saving interventions and 45 flood protection measures implemented.
  • 5 jobs created in the green sector.
  • Green skills qualification attained by +90 individuals and 4 green apprenticeships awarded.
  • 103 m2 of affordable, shared workspaces.
  • +7000 volunteer hours contributed.
  • 26 young people completed a YAQA accredited and paid Youth Training Programme.
  • Free Cycling training and bike repairs.
  • Air quality measures installed at four local schools such as bike hangers and green walls.
  • Replace gas boilers with low carbon heating systems such as heat pumps at five local schools.
