RBKC Young Leaders Awards

The RBKC Youth Council & Young K&C Ambassadors have co-produced this event to highlight and celebrate the incredible accomplishments of young people across our borough.

These awards honour the achievements of young individuals who have made a significant impact through leadership, creativity, sports, community involvement, and more.

Who can be nominated?

We invite nominations for young people aged 11-19 (or up to 25 for those with special educational needs or disabilities). Nominees must live, work, or study within the borough. Please note: While anyone can nominate, individuals cannot nominate themselves.

How to nominate

To nominate a young person, simply fill out our online nomination form. If you prefer a paper form, you can request one by contacting us at [email protected]

  • Nominations close: Sunday 24 November 2024

Award categories

1. Volunteer of the year – Recognising significant contributions to the community through volunteering, for example in sports, creativity, support roles, charity work, or organising events and marches. 
2. Young Carer of the Year – Recognising a young person who has taken on significant caring responsibilities at home, providing support and assistance to family members while balancing their own personal and educational commitments. 
3. Voice of the Future Award – Awarded to a young person who has shown confidence in public speaking, leading discussions, and advocating for important issues. 
4. Creative Excellence Award – Honouring young authors, writers, artists, or performers who have made notable contributions to the arts, with examples of their creative work. 
5. Environmental Champion – Awarded to a young person who has shown exceptional dedication to environmental causes, whether through activism, education, or practical efforts to make their community more sustainable and eco-friendly. 
6. Citizen of the Year – Celebrating those who consistently go above and beyond to contribute to their community, fostering unity, and supporting others. 
7. Rising Leader Award – Awarded to someone who has demonstrated outstanding leadership by taking initiative and driving positive change in their community or group. 
8. Resilience Award – Recognising young individuals who have faced significant challenges, such as language barriers, personal struggles, or special educational needs, and have made remarkable progress. 
9. Personal Breakthrough Award – Celebrating the personal journey and growth of a young person, recognising the distance they have travelled to improve themselves, regardless of the starting point.
10. Sports Excellence Award – Honouring an individual who has demonstrated outstanding performance and dedication in sports, achieving notable success or making a significant impact in their field.

11. Children and Young People’s Plan Champion – recognising significant promotion and championing of children and young people’s need and priorities to affect decision making. (Award sponsored by the Children and Young People's Plan).

The awards ceremony

Winners will be celebrated at a special in-person award ceremony on 13th December 2024 at Kensington Town Hall. The event will feature refreshments, performances, and networking opportunities, offering a chance to connect with inspiring young people and community leaders.

  • Young people (11- 19, up to 25 with SEND) who live, work, study, or participate in youth activities in the borough

  • Friends and families of young attendees

  • Event start: 6:30pm
  • Event end: 8:30pm

Judging Process

All nominations will be carefully reviewed by a panel of young judges from the RBKC Youth Council and Young K&C’s Youth Ambassadors. Our peer-judging process ensures that the voices of young people are at the heart of recognising these achievements.

What’s at stake?

Winners will receive trophies recognising their hard work and achievements. We are also exploring sponsorship opportunities, which may include career networking or additional prizes, so stay tuned for more details.
