Grenfell – possible soil contamination

Clarrie Mendy, Judy Bolton, Terry Edge and Bob Larkins spoke at the Council meeting on 17 October 2018 about possible toxins in the North Kensington area.
We know that people are worried about possible air pollution and soil contamination. The Government has announced additional environmental checks in and around the Grenfell Tower site to provide extra reassurance to survivors and local residents. We will continue to seek community input into any testing.
The Council, with Public Health England (PHE) and the West London Clinical Commissioning Group were in contact with Professor Stec in February 2018 to understand her views about potential pollution in and around the Grenfell Tower site. Professor Stec did not share her evidence, though she did make a number of recommendations for further work to investigate possible health impacts.
The Council sought advice from PHE who advised that the risk to health from potential air and soil pollution remained low and there was no need to change what was being monitored.
