CCTV (closed-circuit television)
The primary function of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) system in Kensington and Chelsea is to prevent, deter and detect crime and anti-social behaviour.
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has 58 cameras located in the wards of Colville, Dalgarno, Earl’s Court and Golborne. These cameras are actively monitored by trained CCTV operators between 15:00 to 01:00 seven days a week and cameras record footage twenty-four hours a day. All recorded material is kept for 30 days and only stored for more than 30 days when it is related to specific incidents.
The CCTV control room has direct radio communications with the Metropolitan Police Service and operates its own radio system in partnership with the Parks Police. The CCTV control room and operators are monitored by CCTV, and access to the control room is strictly controlled.
CCTV is treated in the same way as all data the Council stores about individuals. You are entitled to a copy of any information we hold about you. Your rights and the process for accessing CCTV data relating to you is explained in the Subject Access Request form.
