Special Education Needs
The early years special education needs coordinator (SENCO) offers support and advice for children with special needs in under fives settings. We work with parents, carers, staff, and other professionals in education and health. We aim to support progress and support settings so that all children can access the foundation stage curriculum to their full potential.
The support we offer includes:
- guidance for writing and implementing individual education plans (IEPs)
- integrated working with outside agencies and services
- referrals for assessment
- strategies for promoting positive behaviour
- training for practitioners
- the role of the special educational needs coordinator (SENCO)
- guidance for writing special educational needs (SEN) policy
- support for transition from early years settings to school reception classes
