About the parks police service
The Parks Police Service provides a uniformed presence across parks and open spaces in Kensington and Chelsea. The team consists of two Sergeants and nine Constables.
They have a duty to ensure that the parks remain safe and welcoming places for everyone. They can exercise police powers within the parks. The service is part of the Council’s Community Safety Department.
What the parks police do
The police work with local communities and park users to identify concerns. They then undergo a problem solving and decision making process.
The service plays a key role in responding to any major incidents in the borough and staff can access CCTV systems covering many parks.
The Parks Police provide a service 365 days a year and officers are on duty during peak hours.
The Parks Police duties include:
- reporting crime within the parks
- dealing with anti-social behaviour
- detaining offenders
- enforcing bye-laws and the dog control public spaces protection orders
- security at park events
- dog chipping and dog shows
- attending park user group meetings
- crime prevention
- lost property in parks
- truancy patrols
