Hanging baskets

The Royal Borough operates a scheme which assists residents and businesses who wish to brighten up their streets with hanging flower baskets on street lampposts.

How to apply

All requests for hanging baskets need to be submitted to the Parks team at [email protected] 

Hanging baskets can only be placed on columns that have been checked and confirmed to be able to take the weight of a hanging basket. To check suitability of lamp columns please contact: [email protected] 

Note: Please check suitability of columns and cost of baskets before applying for NCIL, CLLL, or other grant funding. 

The style of baskets for residential streets is wraparound. New requests will also include a one-off cost for installation of brackets for lampposts. 

Hanging baskets have 2 seasons, summer, June to October, and winter, December to April. Baskets can be supplied for one or both seasons. 

When making a request, please provide the following:

• The street(s) and the lamp columns numbers you would like the hanging baskets would be installed on, including confirmation from the borough’s Street Lighting team to confirm the lamp columns are suitable for hanging baskets. 
• Which season you are requesting the hanging baskets for (summer or winter, or both).
• How the hanging baskets will be funded along with the appropriate written confirmation (where the payee is not the requester, or the baskets are to be grant funded).

The deadline for submitting your request along with all the aforementioned criteria for hanging baskets is March 15 of each year.

Colour scheme and planting arrangement is chosen by the basket supplier. This is to ensure that the best planting is selected to maximise colour for the longest period and will often incorporate bee-friendly and drought tolerant planting to suite the individual locations. 

Any specific requests may result in a delay in installing the hanging baskets and involve additional costs.

Cost

Each full wraparound basket costs around £125 per basket, per season. 

The cost includes supply and install of a fully planted basket, and maintenance for the season.

New brackets cost £100 each.
