Kensington and Chelsea primary school children are top of the class in inner London and second nationally according to provisional results for Key Stage 2 SATs tests released by the Department for Education today (Wednesday 5 September).
Cllr Emma Will, Lead Member for Families, Children and Schools, said: “The is great news and it’s particularly reassuring for parents coming at the start of the new school year. Parents whose children are starting primary school today can be assured that they will get an excellent start in our schools. I would like to thank all our teachers and children for their hard work which is reflected in these excellent provisional results.”
In results for the key indicator of reading, writing and mathematics, 75 per cent of borough’s year six students provisionally achieved the expected standard, while 21 per cent achieved a high score compared with the national average of 64 per cent and ten per cent respectively.
The provisional results for mathematics were also good, 85 per cent of pupils reached the expected standard, while 39 per cent achieved a high score compared with the national average of 76 per cent and 24 per cent.
In results for reading 83 per cent of the borough’s year six students provisionally achieved the expected standard, and 40 per cent achieved a high score compared with the national average of 75 per cent and 28 per cent respectively.
Expected results for grammar, punctuation and spelling are also promising with 88 per cent achieving the expected standard and 53 per cent achieving a high score against the national average of 78 per cent and 34 per cent. Provisional writing results are also good, with 86 per cent achieving the expected standard and 30 per cent achieving a high score compared with a national average of 78 per cent and 20 per cent.
