Cllr Elizabeth Campbell, Leader of the Council has made the following statement:
"The spread of violence and disinformation across the country has been shocking to see, we urge police and Government to continue taking any necessary steps to prevent further escalation.
"There can be no doubt, unity is our greatest strength, and we stand ready to work shoulder to shoulder with our community and faith leaders to continue protecting the values we all hold dear.
People should be safe, and should also feel safe – especially in a city as diverse as London.
"Intelligence now suggests that the capital could see incidents in the coming days. So our community safety teams, community engagement teams and our communications team are actively taking steps to monitor and tackle misinformation online and provide a visible presence in our communities. We will also continue to reach out to faith organisations and community groups.
"The violence nationally also follows the recent high-profile murder of teenager Rene Graham at an event in one of our public parks. It is not lost on everybody at the Council how much these national and local issues combine in people’s thoughts and concerns. It is important we all keep talking and we continue to work together with police on these issues."
