Residents have overwhelmingly supported plans for a new and improved Latymer Community Church on its existing site along with new homes and landscaping improvements during the first round engagement sessions.
Latymer Community Church and Bramley Road new homes is the first of the phase 3 sites in our New Homes Delivery Programme (NHDP). The NHDP aims to deliver 600 new homes across the borough, 300 of which will be for social rent. Work has already started on our four phase 1 sites while phase 2 sites are also being progressed.
The idea of providing a brand new and improved community church on its existing site on Bramley Road alongside new homes and community improvements, stemmed from Latymer Community Church, which is the long-term tenant, and Livability, which owns the Bramley Road site. They were both interested in providing an enhanced new facility together with the Council.
The first round of engagement on the plans ran from 6 December 2021 to 17 January 2022. We received 22 competed surveys and 25 residents attended the two engagement sessions – one face to face and the other online.
In the first round residents told us:
- The proposed height of the new building (ground floor plus six) was about right
- They supported plans for new social housing, key worker housing and open market homes to rent on the site
- They supported our approach to landscaping the site
- They would like to see existing fencing and railings removed or reconfigured to improve pedestrian access through the area and to green spaces
- They would like to see improvements to the Community Garden
- They supported the inclusion of a drop-in Stay and Play provision

We are now working closely with the church to develop the new design for the building and will be seeking further input from the community in round 2 of the engagement.
We are also co-designing elements of the landscaping in the area with Catalyst Housing, Action Disability Kensington and Chelsea (ADKC) and representatives from the Hope Garden. Discussions will continue with these groups and local residents on these elements of the scheme.
Simon Blanchflower, Chair of Latymer Christian Fellowship Trustees who manage the church said: “As a church we are delighted with the positive response to the redevelopment plans for the Latymer Community Church site. We are excited about the co-design process that is being followed that allows the community to feed into the design work we are doing with the Council for the new building and to help to shape it in a way that means it will be accessible and welcoming to local people as well as enhancing the landscaping in the vicinity.”
Local residents and organisations will have the opportunity to see how the designs are developing and how they can get involved during round 2 of the engagement.
