On Friday 7 October, Culture Night returns to Kensington and Chelsea with our first in-person celebration of the bold and beautiful creativity which makes up this borough. Take a look at what's on.
Whether you’re looking for fun, friendly activities for young ones during the day, or looking for something more exciting after dark, take a look now at what’s to come this Friday night from art exhibitions, theatre performances, pop-ups and concerts, and join us for an adventure through the arts.
Lead member for Culture, Leisure and Community Safety Cllr Emma Will said about the event:
Culture Night brings together the best the borough has to offer in design, creativity, innovation and style. It showcases our thriving arts scene – from internationally renowned museums to music. This Culture Night there’s something for everyone to try, learn, discover and enjoy.
If you loved Squid Game, delve into the global phenomenon that is Korean pop culture, from Gangnam Style to Parasite, Seoul 1988 to artist Kyungah Ham. Come visit the V&A museum this Friday and explore Hallyu! The Korean Wave, a new exhibition that charts the explosive rise of Korean popular culture around the world, and its impact.
For those of you seeking something more soothing on Friday evening, visit Japan House between 10am and 8pm for an examination of Japanese woodworking, a craft which dates back 1,300 years and transports visitors to the forests of Hida to the modern marquetry and woodworking trade today. Afterwards, head to the Design Museum for its Lates evening, Weird Sensation Feels Good: The World of ASMR, and settle in for an evening that will take you through a series of installations, digital performances and talks including the potential benefits ASMR has for improving mental health.
There’s lots going on over the course of Friday daytime too, including a chance to see Dippy the Dinosaur return to the Natural History Museum for free as he makes a short pitstop back at the museum from his UK tour. In the evening from 6pm to 10pm, the Science Museum will host a journey through the cosmos with Science Fiction: Voyage to the end of imagination, a new exhibition. Culture Night visitors will receive an exclusive discount of 20 per cent off with code CULTURENIGHTSCIFI to be used at checkout.
For adults and young people alike, music and magic combine in a special concert of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Relive the adventure through the live symphony orchestra performance. Or, if you’re looking to push the boundaries with theatre in the borough, the Finborough, Playground and Royal Court theatres will show you other worlds, through new eyes and back to examine our own in minute detail.
