The latest outdoor gym in Kensington officially opened on Saturday 6 August and is based in Avondale Park, Walmar Road W11. Residents and visitors were able to test out the new equipment and trainers from the Council’s leisure centres were on hand to show how the equipment can be used. There are also QR codes on each piece of equipment that take you to films of how the use them.
The free gym is part of the Council’s programme of investment and support for people following on from the pandemic and in dealing with the rising cost of living.
Residents expressed a desire for an accessible fitness space when they were consulted by the Council, and this has led to the £72,000 investment which provides the community with free gym equipment in separate zones for cardiovascular or resistance training. There is also a new flat surface fitness space.
Cllr Emma Will, Lead Member for Leisure, said: “This outdoor gym is the second gym we’ve placed in our parks this summer, and another will be opening in the borough as part of our work with residents on ensuring they can best take care of their health and wellbeing. We’re committed to continuing to help Kensington and Chelsea residents support their health.”
The new gym is part of a wider programme of works which includes a new gym opening later this month in Kensington Memorial Park.
