A brand-new Education and Wellbeing Centre at St Francis of Assisi Primary School in North Kensington has opened its doors, with children and staff from the school already taking full advantage of the state-of-the-art facilities and spaces it provides.
The centre offers therapy spaces, an activity-packed sensory room, modern classrooms, intervention rooms, a spacious kitchen and a reflective garden area. While the centre is currently being utilised by school pupils in need of interventions and therapeutic support, it will soon welcome members of the local community through its doors.
The large group spaces in the centre will host training, parent workshops and classes in the coming months, making the centre an asset not only for the school, but for all those living in the surrounding area.
The Council contributed £550,000 towards the construction of the new centre, with the Department for Education and local Diocese also providing funding. In remembrance of a child in the school’s reception class who tragically lost his life in the Grenfell tragedy, the centre has been named the Isaac Paulos Centre for Education and Wellbeing.
Following a visit to the centre, Cllr Josh Rendall, the Council’s Lead Member for Family and Children’s Services, said:
“With the fifth anniversary of the Grenfell tragedy just around the corner, we felt it was really worthwhile to help children with their mental health needs in a specially built centre. Children are absolutely loving it and the space and services being provided here are absolutely brilliant.”
Amie Kelleher, Head of School at Francis of Assisi, said:
“We are hoping to have a joint approach with members of our community, and we’re so pleased to have this centre on site at St Francis of Assisi school.”
