What new attractions are available?
A pirate ship, climbing frames, viewing platforms, together with hidden fossils and herb planting are just some of the new attractions seen at the newly reopened Kensington Memorial Park playground following a £300,000 refurbishment.
Who is at the opening?
The Mayor, Cllr Preety Hudd, and Cllr Emma Will, Lead Member for Leisure opened the playground today, Wednesday 12 July 2023 with children and representatives from St Quintin’s Centre for Disabled Children, the St Quintin and Woodlands Neighbourhood Forum and members of the Kensington Memorial Park design steering group attending.
Cllr Emma Will, Lead Member for Community Safety, Culture and Leisure, said:
“What an amazing playground we have now at Kensington Memorial Park. We all want the best for our children, and I think this playground will be enjoyed by every child who comes here. There is so much to see and do.
“We want our parks and services to reflect the needs of our communities and it was great that so many local people had their say on this playground. The playground is more fun and more accessible than ever, making our green space welcoming to everyone.”
Why has Kensington Memorial Park a new playground?
Following a public consultation about what residents and park users wanted the new playground is a much brighter place, with an orange path leading to the pirate ship. There’s also a range of swings, including accessible swings and even a hammock.
As well as play equipment there are sensory items and a sand pit, with hidden fossils and an herb planting area.
Where is Kensington Memorial Park?
Kensington Memorial Park is also known as St Mark’s Park and is based on St Mark’s Road, W10. It is open from 7.30am until dusk. It also has a very popular water play area.
