Local skip-hire company, Skipit, has secured a new work order with Willmott Dixon (WD) – one of the UK's leading independent construction and property services companies, through the RBKC Supply Chain Project, funded by the Council.
Skipit was initially put forward by the RBKC Supply Chain team for the skip hire opportunity at two of WD’s sites in the borough, at Hewer Street and Kensal Road.
The work order was initially declined by WD as their regular skip provider’s depot was much closer and more convenient for their site’s needs.
However, the RBKC Supply Chain team was able to negotiate with WD on Skipit’s behalf and encouraged WD, in the spirit of local procurement, to give them a trial period on the smaller of their two projects at Hewer Street.
WD has now placed an order with Skipit to supply and collect skips from Hewer Street which, if performed to a satisfactory standard, could become a key contract for the company over the next year.
Cllr Catherine Faulks, Lead Member for Skills and Enterprise, said:
“Congratulations to Skipit on their new contract with Willmot Dixon! Success stories like this are the reason why we invest in projects like the RBKC Supply Chain. Enabling and supporting local business to get ahead and investing in our local economy is so important, particularly as we move away from lockdown. I encourage local businesses in need of support to reach out and see how the RBKC Supply Chain could also benefit them.”
David McAlpine, Project Director, RBKC Supply Chain, said:
“We are really pleased to see this work order secured for Skipit. It’s been a tough year so it’s great to see larger businesses supporting our smaller and local companies. Through the RBKC Supply Chain we aim to help our businesses get access to the opportunities created by public and private sector investment in the borough and upskill them to improve their chances of succeeding.
Mo Maan, Director of Central Waste Services Ltd at Skipit, said:
“RBKC Supply Chain have been fantastic throughout this process and have helped us win an order from a top company which looked set to lose to their regular supplier. It is great to see the Council helping local businesses like this.”
The RBKC Supply Chain was founded in 2019 and is run by the Council in partnership with London procurement experts MTW Consultants and supports the objectives of the Council’s Economic Development Strategy. It supports over 150 businesses in the borough and has helped to facilitate 11 new contracts for local business within the past year.
