Today, the Council’s Leadership Team and Executive Management Team has jointly launched a dedicated appeal for staff and councillors across the borough to contribute financially to the Ukraine crisis.

The Council has opted to provide support to the DEC Ukraine Appeal. We are encouraging staff members and councillors to contribute what they can to the appeal, and then share their donation on their own social media channels using #RBKCHelpsUkraine. Residents of the borough are welcome to contribute.

Cllr Elizabeth Campbell said:

“We are two weeks into this invasion, and it is abundantly clear that the repercussions will be global. Global events also have a huge local impact, so we are all connected to this in some way.

“We have decided that the best way to support people is with a unified response, by supporting a national appeal which the Council will be contributing to.

“We have over 2,500 people who work here and represent the borough. Alongside the logistical support we are providing to the Ukraine embassy and local organisations and groups, and the symbolic support of flying the flag outside the town hall; we can also offer financial support directly to those who need it.

“The Council has already set aside a kick-start sum of £4,000 for charities supporting Ukraine – as a result of our decision to not light our building up last week. We envisage this is the start of the RBKC Helps Ukraine fund.

“If every single one of us contributes just 10 pounds, we will reach a total of well over £25,000, so please do whatever you can. Imagine the support that might provide for families caught up in the fighting.”

If you want to support the Ukraine appeal click here, donate, and then post your support on Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, or any other social media. Use #RBKCHelpsUkraine so we can keep a running total on our overall contribution.
