We are urging Kensington and Chelsea residents to make their voices heard following a proposal by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan to increase the Greater London Authority’s portion of council tax by seven per cent for 2023/24.
While no decisions have been taken, the Mayor of London is asking Londoners for their views on the hike which, if approved, would see an increase of £27.89 on the annual bill of a Band D property for the coming financial year.
The Council will be responding to the consultation in the strongest possible terms, urging the Mayor to rethink these proposals, at a time when our residents are grappling with the increases in cost of living.
Cllr Johnny Thalassites, Lead Member for Finance and Customer Delivery, said: “I understand the pressures we are all under in London but believe seven per cent is too high given the current difficulties our residents are facing. Our priority here in Kensington and Chelsea is to keep taxes and costs down for local residents wherever possible and to protect essential services. I am working hard with colleagues to ensure this happens.
“I would urge all of our residents to take part in this consultation and give their views to the Mayor of London.”
