The Council’s resident panel is currently looking for North Kensington residents to help them shape the second round of the Community Leadership Programme (CLP).
Part of the Grenfell Recovery Strategy, the first round of the Programme saw the Council partner with voluntary sector organisations to provide free workshops for local residents as part of the North Kensington’s community-led recovery.
With £200k available for the second round of the CLP, RBKC is now looking to recruit new members to its resident panel to help decide how this funding could be used to make the Programme as effective as possible. This will include attending regular meetings with the Grenfell Community Team, recommending ways to improve service delivery and evaluating the CLP’s impact on the local community.
North Kensington resident Caroline Akello, who is currently a member of the panel, has so far been involved in shaping the second round of the Grenfell Projects Fund and is looking forward to welcoming new members to the group.
She said: “Being able to be part of this panel is an opportunity I don’t take for granted. Diversity is something we can be proud of in our community, so it’s therefore very important that the decisions that affects us reflect just that. We cannot leave it to everybody else to bring about the change that affects us as residents in North Kensington. It is the duty of each and every one of us, and our responsibility to one another, to have a positive effect on our community, enrich our environment, and shape it into one we can be proud of for future generations.”
While being on the panel, Caroline has not only helped to shape the Grenfell Projects Fund 2, but she has acquired skills in the delivery of community grants programmes by completing two modules of accredited training.
Caroline said: ‘The Council has been instrumental in ensuring that our personal development is a key part of working towards a successful Grenfell Projects Fund 2 outcome, with training provided throughout the process. I look forward to continuing this training as we begin shaping the second round of the CLP and I’m excited to welcome new residents to join us at these sessions.”
