Fuel costs are rising quickly, and this may be a source of concern for some residents, especially those on low incomes.
There are several programmes, grants and contact numbers where residents could get support to save money on their bills and make their homes warmer. The Council is backing the national ambition to end fuel poverty, aiming to improve fuel poor homes to a minimum energy efficiency rating of Band C by the end of 2030.
Cllr Johnny Thalassites, Lead Member for Planning, Place and Environment, said:
“We understand that some residents may be concerned about rising energy costs and we want to do all we can to support our residents. With these schemes and grants, we aim to deliver better insulated and energy-efficient homes and reduce the number of fuel poor residents. We will support vulnerable residents to keep their homes warmer this winter.”
Advice and support with bills
Green Doctors offer support through home visits or telephone consultations to elderly residents, those on a low income or those with a disability. Green Doctors have already helped 448 residents to save money on their energy bills since the scheme began and the Council aims to provide at least 100 free home energy consultations ever year.

Grants to make your home warmer
Grants are available to improve the energy efficiency of your home, especially if it has an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D, E, F or G.
Whether you’re a tenant, owner occupier or landlord you could get help with costs associated with making your home warmer. Get full details of the grants available on the Greener Homes pages of our website.
We are reminding residents to check that their landlord has provided them with an Energy Performance Certificate that proves their homes meet minimum energy requirements.
If your energy provider has failed your gas and electricity will continue to be provided and Ofgem have a system in place to reassign you to a new supplier. Ofgem have provided a useful guide.
