Have your say on Transport for London bus changes

Published: Tuesday 21 June 2022

Bus journeys in Kensington and Chelsea could be affected by Transport for London’s bus review. A full summary of the route changes is available on the TfL website.

The consultation run by TfL is open until 12 July for people to have their say on a swathe of changes affecting central London. If you use the bus in Kensington and Chelsea, the Council is strongly encouraging you to check how changes could affect you and respond to the consultation.

The new proposals would continue to serve all bus stops in the borough but would mean up to 22 per cent of passengers needing to interchange to reach their destinations on some routes.

Cllr Cem Kemahli, lead member for planning, place and environment, said:

“TfL’s proposals reduce the bus service to our hospitals and supermarkets, making life more difficult for people.

“I understand TfL’s need for efficiency, but bus changes must be fair and futureproof.

“As the cost-of-living rises, bus travel may become the only means of affordable transport for people who had previously used the pricier London Underground. This is especially the case for people who cannot walk or cycle easily, such as people with disabilities, parents with buggies or those carrying heavy luggage.

“The Council will be responding to TfL’s consultation, and I encourage residents to do the same.”

Some of the proposed changes affecting Kensington and Chelsea include:

  • The number 14 serving the Royal Marsden and Chelsea and Westminster hospitals will be withdrawn, with increased waiting times and fuller buses expected at stops on Fulham Road.
  • The number 11 from Fulham Broadway to Liverpool Street would be withdrawn and replaced by the 507 from Fulham Broadway to Victoria/Westminster and 26 from Victoria/Westminster to Liverpool Street.
  • The number 49 which currently provides a route from White City to Clapham would terminate at East Action and South Kensington.
  • The C3 from Clapham Junction to Earls Court would be withdrawn. It will be replaced by the number 27 but this will not provide a southbound route from Tesco on Warwick Road.

The Council will be responding to the consultation, asking TfL to take into consideration wheelchair users and parents with buggies, who would be particularly impacted by interchanges and the reduction in capacity.

The consultation is open now until 12 July.
